Schengen visas

The Schengen visa entitles the holder to a maximum stay of 90 days per 180 days in the Schengen area.
As the German mission abroad, we are responsible for your application if Germany is your main travel destination.

How does the visa procedure work?

The visa procedure and the documents to be submitted differ depending on the specific purpose of stay. On the following pages you will therefore find all the information you need for your travel plans:

Complaints about the Schengen visa process

Schengen visa applicants can submit complaints about the behaviour of consulate staff or the visa application process using the contact form.

To do so, please select the topic “Complaint about the Schengen visa process” in the contact form. Please note that complaints can only be submitted in German or English; we cannot investigate complaints in languages other than German or English.

Please enter one of the following two options in the “Subject” field of the contact form:

  • Complaint about behaviour of consular staff.
  • Complaint about the visa application process

We will investigate your complaint as soon as we receive it.

Important note: No appeals against decisions to refuse, cancel or revoke a visa can be handed in via the complaint contact form.
